About Us

Gillian Smith

Founder, WordSmith Media

I believe everyone has a story worth telling. I have more than 15 years of digital, visual and social media communications experience in telling those stories.

I am currently the Director of External Communications and Media Relations at Suffolk University and professor of Public Relations at Northeastern University.

Previously, I was the Deputy Director for Media Relations at Cornell University, where I helped manage day-to-day operations for the media relations office as well as pitching social sciences-related research. In addition, I specialized in creating avenues for Cornell research and experts in new and emerging media and news platforms.

Before returning to Ithaca in 2018, I worked as a videographer at Boston University School of Medicine, a digital producer at NBC affiliate station WHDH-7News, and editor in chief of the Duxbury Clipper, an independent weekly newspaper.

I received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Ithaca College and a master's degree in journalism innovation from Syracuse University.
